Laura's Library Address and Directions
We're delighted to be able to offer the Westbank community another library! On Sunday, July 19th, we opened Laura's Library as another branch of the Westbank Community Library District. We couldn't have done it without the help of the more than 350 people who pitched in to build shelves, sort books, unpack furniture, fight with all the wires, and vacuum, vacuum, vacuum!

As you might be able to tell from the structure, Laura's Library will be just about the same size as the Westbank Library. We're delighted to think of it as one library, two locations. All of the collection- books, DVDs, CDs- will be available to all members as we'll share the same computer catalog. You will be able to tell us where you want to pick up your books and you'll be able to drop them off at either library. We'll make the books travel up and down Bee Cave Road so you won't have to!
Did you know we save our members $24,000 a day? Based on the number of books checked out- more than half a million of them in 2008!, not to mention all our programs, book sale room, meeting room, tutoring opportunities, and electronic resources, we've returned more than a thousand percent on our community's sales tax investment this year.
However, we'll be greatly affected by the economic downturn. As a Library District, more than 90 percent of our revenues come from local sales tax. We're projecting a loss of $800,000 in revenue over the next 5 years. Fiscal responsibility is part of our obligation to the Westbank community. Of course we're carefully considering every expenditure.
