As a 14 year old German, Dr. Walter Meyer was required to join the Hitler Youth (HJ). He rebelled and quit, forming a group dedicated to undermining the Hitler Youth. He was caught and jailed, and following many escape attempts Walter was sent to a concentration camp. After 2 years in the camp Walter made a daring escape, and eventually stowed away on a ship to South America where he worked as a gaucho, lived in the Amazon jungle, and coached the Peruvian Olympic Swim Team, among other amazing things. Walter later worked as an interpreter for Lyndon Johnson and taught at UT. He is an artist and a writer.
